Is a convicted murderer who is serving a minimum term of life imprisonment for first-degree murder subject to lifetime parole supervision?

Generally, "[a] sentence resulting in imprisonment in the state prison pursuant to [Penal Code] Section 1168 or 1170 shall include a period of parole supervision . . . ." (Pen. Code, 3000, subd. (a)(1).) Inmates serving indeterminate sentences with a maximum term of life imprisonment for first or second degree murder are subject to lifetime parole periods, although they can be discharged from parole earlier under certain circumstances.
