What is the test for interpreting a life insurance policy?

Nova Scotia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Snow v. Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company, 2015 NSSC 44 (CanLII):

The primary interpretative principle is that when the language of the policy is unambiguous, the court should give effect to clear language, reading the contract as a whole. In addition, the proper consideration of an insurance contract is a question of law. (Turpin v. Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, 2011 BCSC 1162, at paras. 22, and 23)
