What is the appropriate compensation for a plaintiff who was not represented by counsel at trial?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Sant v. Jack Andrews Kirkfield Pharmacy Ltd., 2002 MBQB 51 (CanLII):

Although the plaintiff was not represented by counsel at the trial and is not entitled to a counsel fee, nevertheless, I would award her a sum of money as compensation for the expenses and inconvenience of having to attend in court for the many days this case was in trial. I made a similar allowance for an unrepresented plaintiff in the case of Fegol v. Chimilar et al, unreported, September 19, 2000.
