How have the courts interpreted a life insurance policy?

The facts here are undisputed. Accordingly, we are only required to review the trial court's construction of the policy. Since the interpretation of an insurance policy is an issue of law, " 'it is the duty of the appellate court ... to make its own independent determination of the meaning of the language used in the contract under consideration.'
