Is a school trustee entitled to hold his office as a trustee in a rural school district where he lives and works his farm?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Mitchell v. Town of Melville, 1922 CanLII 373 (SK LGB):

H. was elected as a school trustee in a rural school district in the province of Manitoba, where he occupied and worked his farm, but his wife and a portion of his family lived in the city of Portage la Prairie, which H. visited at almost regular intervals. It was held that H. had a place of residence, and was himself a “resident ratepayer” in the rural school district, and was, therefore, entitled to hold his office as school trustee. McCuaig v. Hinds, supra.
