The test to prove economic duress is high. Most people who have had their employment terminated face economic challenges, but financial difficulty alone cannot be sufficient to show economic duress. See Solcan v. Kitchener (City), 2011 HRTO 2205 (“Solcan”). I accept that the applicant was under financial pressure following his termination but he failed to show that he faced economic pressure that was illegitimate and amounted to coercion of the will as defined in jurisprudence.
