Does the exclusionary rule apply to police disciplinary proceedings?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Salyer v. County of Los Angeles, 116 Cal.Rptr. 27, 42 Cal.App.3d 866 (Cal. App. 1974):

Petitioner contends, first, that the exclusionary rule applies to disciplinary proceedings, and, second, that the evidence taken from his car [42 Cal.App.3d 874] was inadmissible because the search was unlawful. We need not decide whether the exclusionary rules applies to a police disciplinary proceeding (see Emslie v. State Bar, 11 Cal.3d 210, 229--230, 113 Cal.Rptr. 175, 520 P.2d 991), since, in any event, the search was lawful.
