The following excerpt is from Bandpey v Talebpourazad, 2021 BCSC 763 (CanLII):

Compensatory support is “intended to provide redress to the recipient spouse for economic disadvantage arising from the marriage or the conferral of an economic advantage upon the other spouse.”: Chutter v. Chutter, 2008 BCCA 507 at para. 50.

Each spouse is entitled to compensation for losses caused by the marriage and its breakdown that they would not have otherwise sustained: Chutter at para. 50, citing Bracklow v. Bracklow, 1999 CanLII 715 (SCC), [1999] 1 S.C.R. 420 at paras. 24 and 41.
