Compensatory support is intended to recognize and address a recipient spouse’s effort during the marriage which conferred economic benefits or advantages on the other spouse and redress for any economic disadvantages arising from the marriage or its breakdown: see Chutter v. Chutter, 2008 BCCA 507 at paras. 50 – 51, leave to appeal ref’d [2009] S.C.C.A. No. 41.
