What are the legal principles applicable to child support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from A.D. v. A.P., 2016 BCSC 2023 (CanLII):

AD accepts the summary of legal principles applicable to child support which I set out in detail in Bennett v. Bennett, 2015 BCSC 699 at paras. 41-61. Accordingly, I will not repeat them here. I would emphasize, however, that the child support obligation fluctuates with the level of income available to the parents and that a payor parent who does not increase child support payments to correspond with increased income is not fulfilling his or her legal obligation to the children.
