Is a child that has legitimate scholastic ambitions deserving of financial support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Evans v. Evans, 2014 BCSC 793 (CanLII):

A child that has legitimate scholastic ambitions that cannot be realized without its parent’s financial contribution is deserving of child support: Patterson v. Patterson, [1995] B.C.J. No. 109 (S.C.).

Notably, when a child does not continuously pursue post-secondary education but lives at home and works part-time, a payor parent may be relieved from a portion of the child support payment for that period. But the child may regain “child of the marriage” status if his or her circumstances change: Hartshorne v. Hartshorne, 2010 BCCA 327 at para. 77.
