1 Officers are not without recourse to protect themselves when interacting with suspects prior to arrest. An officer may still perform a protective "patdown" if the officer has reasonable suspicion to believe that the suspect may be armed and dangerous. Knowles , 525 U.S. at 118, 119 S.Ct. 484 (citing Terry v. Ohio , 392 U.S. 1, 88 S.Ct. 1868, 20 L.Ed.2d 889 (1968) ).
