No basis that we are aware of thus existed for the use of the statements by defense counsel in any case. All of the grounds upon which such a statement might be used, whether or not it varied from the witness' testimony (see People v. Rosario, supra, p. 289, 213 N.Y.S.2d p. 450, 173 N.E.2d p. 882), are inapplicable to a situation like the present one.
