In what circumstances will permanent alimony of £25 a year be awarded to a woman who was forced by her husband to live separate from him?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from DeWitt v. DeWitt, 1919 CanLII 153 (SK CA):

In Soules v. Soudes, 3 Gr. Ch. 113, permanent alimony of £25 a year was granted. It was argued that this sum should be allowed to the wife from the date when she was forced by her husband’s cruelty to live separate from him, or, if not from that date, from the commencement of the suit.
