What is the appropriate sentence for a 16-year-old boy who has pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and cause grievous bodily harm?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. T.P., 2002 BCPC 458 (CanLII):

The authorities cited by the defendant and the crown dictate a range of sentence for similar offences from probation to twenty-four months custody. The circumstances of the offence and the offender are as varied as the penalties imposed. In all cases a sentence must be tailored to the particular circumstances facing the court; however, in a youth sentencing this is clearly the paramount concern. I have only to refer to the above quoted passages from Regina v. J.J.M., supra as authority for this proposition.
