Is a failure to meet a sales quota a cause for dismissal?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Chawrun v. Bell Mobility Inc., 2013 BCSC 102 (CanLII):

In Schulman v. Xerox Canada Ltd., [1996] 75 N.S.R. (2d) 7 (S.C.); 1986 CarswellNS 116, Justice Rogers concluded that the failure of a sales executive to meet sales quotas was not cause for dismissal even where proper warnings had been given by the employer if the drop in sales was beyond the control of the plaintiff.
