What is the test for determining if a relationship is marriage-like?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Athwal v Walia, 2021 BCSC 608 (CanLII):

In order to determine if a relationship is “marriage-like”, a court must consider the totality of circumstances, and apply what is referred to as a “holistic” approach. No single factor is determinative, and a “checklist” approach to the question is not appropriate: Austin v. Goerz, 2007, BCCA 586, at paras. 58 and 62.
