As a general rule, the parties to a lawsuit must bear their own attorney's fees. (Cassim v. Allstate Ins. Co. (2004) 33 Cal.4th 780, 806.) Exceptions to the general rule are where attorney's fees are specifically provided by statute or where the parties have expressly agreed to an award of attorney's fees.
