Code of Civil Procedure, section 237, subdivision (b) provides that in order to obtain a hearing on a petition for release of juror identifying information, the defendant must make a prima facie showing of good cause for disclosure. Good cause can be shown by establishing that the information is necessary for developing a motion for new trial. (Code Civ. Proc., 206, subd. (g).) The defendant must make a sufficient showing to support a reasonable belief that jury misconduct occurred and that diligent efforts were made to contact the jurors, and that further investigation is necessary to provide the trial court with adequate information to rule on a motion for new trial.
