What is the test for overturning a trial court's decision not to allow evidence to be admitted at trial?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. ORTEGA, E050594, Super.Ct.No. RIF147870 (Cal. App. 2011):

A trial court's discretion regarding the admission of evidence will be overturned only if it is exercised in '"an arbitrary, capricious or patently absurd manner that resulted in a manifest miscarriage of justice.'" (People v. Rodrigues (1994) 8 Cal.4th 1060, 11241125.) Here the trial court did not abuse its discretion.
