5 In addition, at the time of White v. Marciano, Civil Code section 4700, subdivision (a) provided that "[a]t the request of either party, the court shall make appropriate findings with respect to the circumstances on which the order for the support of a minor child is based." Under the law at that time, a party could also have requested specific findings pursuant to Code of Civil Procedure section 634. (In re Marriage of Ostler & Smith (1990) 223 Cal.App.3d 33, 54, 272 Cal.Rptr. 560.)
