Because the intent with which a person acts is rarely susceptible of direct proof, it usually must be inferred from facts and circumstances surrounding the offense. (Massie, supra, 142 Cal.App.4th at p. 371; People v. Pre (2004) 117 Cal.App.4th 413, 420 (Pre).) The nature and extent of the injuries may be considered in assessing a defendant's intent.
