The following excerpt is from People v. Jones, 155 Cal.App.3d 153, 202 Cal.Rptr. 162 (Cal. App. 1984):
Evidence Code section 786 provides that evidence relating to the character of a witness for the purpose of effecting his credibility is limited to the character traits of dishonesty and untruthfulness to attack credibility and to the opposite character traits of honesty and truthfulness to support the witness' credibility. These are the character traits which necessarily are involved in properly determining credibility. Other character traits are not sufficiently probative of a witness' honesty or truthfulness to warrant consideration on the issue of credibility. (People v. Thompson (1979) 98 Cal.App.3d 467, 475, 159 Cal.Rptr. 615.)
