What is the test for determining whether causation is sufficient to justify an award under Government Code section 31720(a)?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from De Puy v. Board of Retirement, 150 Cal.Rptr. 791, 87 Cal.App.3d 392 (Cal. App. 1978):

The trial court interpreted Heaton v. Marin County Employees Retirement Bd., supra, 63 Cal.App.3d 421, 133 Cal.Rptr. 809, as saying that an infinitesimal amount of causation is sufficient to justify the award under the language of Government Code section 31720(a). 3 We do not read the case as standing for that principle.
