What is the test for determining whether an error was harmless beyond a reasonable doubt?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Boulware, 20 Cal.App.4th 1753, 25 Cal.Rptr.2d 381 (Cal. App. 1993):

Relying on Coleman v. Alabama (1967) 399 U.S. 1, 90 S.Ct. 1999, 26 L.Ed.2d 387, appellant argues that since the trial court did not articulate that the alleged error was harmless beyond a reasonable doubt, it failed to make its ruling on the correct constitutional standard. We disagree.
