1305, 1352.) In a breach of contract case, causation of damages means the damages were proximately caused by the defendant's breach. (Ibid.) The test for causation in a breach of contract case is whether the breach was a substantial factor in causing the damage. (Id. at p. 1353; Haley v. Casa Del Rey Homeowners Assn. (2007) 153 Cal.App.4th 863, 871.)
