The following excerpt is from People v. Carron, 37 Cal.App.4th 1230, 44 Cal.Rptr.2d 328 (Cal. App. 1995):
Our conclusion is consistent with People v. Heilman, supra, 25 Cal.App.4th 391, 30 Cal.Rptr.2d 422. In analyzing the statute's elements to determine what restraints on arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement (id. at p. 400, 30 Cal.Rptr.2d 422) it contained, People v. Heilman identified a single intent: "the specific intent to place the victim in a reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm." (People v. Heilman, supra, 25 Cal.App.4th at p. 401, 30 Cal.Rptr.2d 422.)
