What is the test for admitting or excluding evidence in a civil case?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from The People v. Kirkland, D055139, No. FSB052861 (Cal. App. 2010):

Trial courts have broad discretion to admit or exclude evidence. We review trial court evidentiary rulings under the abuse of discretion standard. (People v. Guerra (2006) 37 Cal.4th 1067, 1113.) Evidence Code section 352 permits trial courts to exclude otherwise relevant evidence when the court determines that the risk of undue prejudice from that evidence outweighs its probative value. (People v. Kipp (2001) 26 Cal.4th 1100, 1121.)
