What is the test for admissibility of other crimes evidence for abuse of power?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Scully, 11 Cal.5th 542, 278 Cal.Rptr.3d 792, 486 P.3d 1029 (Cal. 2021):

We review the trial court's ruling on the admissibility of other crimes evidence for abuse of discretion. ( People v. Cole (2004) 33 Cal.4th 1158, 1195, 17 Cal.Rptr.3d 532, 95 P.3d 811.) We will not disturb its ruling on appeal absent a showing that it exercised its discretion in an arbitrary manner resulting in a manifest miscarriage of justice. ( People v. Rodrigues (1994) 8 Cal.4th 1060, 11241125, 36 Cal.Rptr.2d 235, 885 P.2d 1.)
