entered his plea unknowingly and involuntarily, we must accept the trial court's factual findings if they are supported by substantial evidence, and absent a clear abuse of discretion, we must affirm the court's ultimate ruling on the merits. (People v. Fairbank (1997) 16 Cal.4th 1223, 1254.) We are not free to disregard the trial court's findings regarding the credibility of the defendant's allegations. (People v. Gutierrez (2003) 106 Cal.App.4th 169, 176.)
