The attorneys hotly disputed the inferences to be drawn from the evidence and how the law should be applied to that evidence. The prosecutor's comments directed to defense counsel are not dissimilar to those found in People v. Medina (1995) 11 Cal.4th 694, 759, or as referred to in People v. Gionis, supra, 9 Cal.4th at page 1217, footnote 13. The court said in Medina, "[t]o observe that an experienced defense counsel will attempt to 'twist' and 'poke' at the prosecution's case does not amount to a personal attack on counsel's integrity." (Medina, supra, at p. 759.)
