In contrast, Title 18 provides that the sentencing court "shall consider," among other factors, the "characteristics of the defendant," 18 U.S.C. 3553(a)(1) (emphasis added), and "shall impose a sentence sufficient , but not greater than necessary, to," inter alia , "promote respect for the law ," id . 3553(a)(2)(A) (emphases added). The defendants commission of perjury in an effort to evade or minimize punishment for her crimes is clearly indicative of her lack of respect for the law and is a relevant consideration in determining what sentence is " sufficient under the circumstances." United States v. Stewart , 590 F.3d 93, 149 (2d Cir. 2009) (quoting 18 U.S.C. 3553(a)(2) ).
