The following excerpt is from Cochran v. Motors, D055390, Super. Ct. No. GIE037111 (Cal. App. 2010):
There are various policies implicated when an action is classified as a limited civil case. For example, designating a case as "limited" allows a party to avoid expensive and time-consuming discovery (see Chavez v. City of Los Angeles (2010) 47 Cal.4th 970, 988), inasmuch as parties are generally limited to any combination of 35 interrogatories, demands to produce documents and requests for admissions (Code Civ. Proc., 94, subd. (a)(1-3)) and one oral or written deposition. (Code Civ. Proc, 94, subd. (b).)
