What is the effect of a police violation of the Miranda rights of a suspect?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Orozco, 244 Cal.Rptr.3d 337, 32 Cal.App.5th 802 (Cal. App. 2019):

When the police violate a suspects Miranda rights, the statement immediately resulting from that violation is inadmissible in the prosecutions case-in-chief. ( Miranda , supra , 384 U.S. at pp. 444-445, 86 S.Ct. 1602.) That violation may also warrant suppression of subsequent statements obtained as a result of the initial violation. ( People v. Storm (2002) 28 Cal.4th 1007, 1027, 124 Cal.Rptr.2d 110, 52 P.3d 52.) However, because a violation of Miranda does not necessarily result in a confession that is "compelled"
