The following excerpt is from Henriks v. State Farm Mut. Auto. Ins. Co., B208936, No. BC378520 (Cal. App. 2010):

1. A SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) is a lawsuit intended to chill the exercise of the right of free speech or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. (Rusheen v. Cohen (2006) 37 Cal.4th 1048, 1055.) It is subject to a special motion to strike, also known as an anti-SLAPP motion.
