What are the reasons for a judge to sentence a defendant to two concurrent sentences for a charge of assault with intent to pervert the course of justice?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Lopez, F059778, Super. Ct. No. F09905772 (Cal. App. 2011):

Regardless, any error in failing to state reasons for the consecutive sentences was harmless. (People v. Tillotson (2007) 157 Cal.App.4th 517, 545.) The probation report recommended consecutive sentences for all four convictions and an aggravated term on at least one conviction. Prior to pronouncement of sentence, defense counsel reminded the trial court that imposition of concurrent versus consecutive sentences was at the trial court's discretion and asked the trial court to exercise that discretion to impose concurrent sentences instead of consecutive sentences.
