What are the consequences of a reversal of a trial court order?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Iott v. Franklin, 206 Cal.App.3d 521, 253 Cal.Rptr. 635 (Cal. App. 1988):

Although innumerable decisions affirm trial court orders, whether granting or denying relief, and some reverse trial court orders denying relief, consonant with the policy favoring a trial on the merits, decisions reversing trial court orders granting relief are not, despite common opinion, rare. (See, e.g., Gardner v. Superior Court, supra, 182 Cal.App.3d 335, 339, 227 Cal.Rptr. 78.)
