What is the basis for a vesting order?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Wehbe v Wehbe, 2016 ONSC 1445 (CanLII):

A vesting order has its roots based on equitable principles. In Bulman v. Bulman (2009), 76 R.F.L. (6th) 112, the court confirmed that the vesting order is an equitable remedy to use as an enforcement mechanism where there was little likelihood that the husband would comply with any lump sum spousal support or equalization order.
