Under certain circumstances, premeditation and deliberation may be negated by heat of passion arising from provocation, and reduce first degree murder to second degree murder. Provocation may also reduce an intentional killing from murder to manslaughter. (People v. Lasko (2000) 23 Cal.4th 101, 108; People v. Hernandez, supra, 183 Cal.App.4th at p. 1332.)
