The trial judge has a discretion to determine what period(s) of time are appropriate for the determination of net income loss: Lines v. W & D Logging Co. Ltd., 2009 BCCA 106 at paras. 181-186. In exercising this discretion, the trial judge should keep in mind that the plaintiff is to be put back in the position he or she would have been in had the accident not occurred: Lines at paras. 185-186.
