What are the costs of two separate actions brought by the same defendant?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Munday v. Munday, Chrysler Credit et al, 2000 BCSC 1335 (CanLII):

The actions were tried together, so they became a single proceeding: Starling v. Martin, [1996] B.C.J. No. 2486 (Q.L.)(B.C.S.C.). One could therefore take the view that the total of the two offers is to be compared to the total award at trial. The defendants would clearly not then be entitled to double costs.
