Is there any case law where a tenant in possession is not charged with occupation rent at all?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Foffano v. Foffano, 1996 CanLII 8097 (ON SC):

In an interesting case, M’Mahon v. Burchell (1846), 5 Hare 322 (L.C.), a tenant in possession was not charged with occupation rent during one period, “because he was then engaged in the affairs of the whole family.”
