Is Section 181(a) of the BC Civil Code of Civil Procedure consistent with common law duty of care?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Bivadi v. Coggans, 2017 BCSC 656 (CanLII):

Section 181(a) is consistent with the common law duty of care to take such care as would be exercised by a reasonable and careful person. In that regard, the standard is not one of perfection, but of ordinary prudence: Addison v. Nelles, 2003 BCSC 1860 at para. 17, aff’d 2004 BCCA 623.
