What is the standard of acceptability or tolerance in Canadian culture and arts law?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. Johnson, 1972 CanLII 203 (AB QB):

See also Regina v. O'Reilly et al., supra, at p. 25 in which it is stated: "Since the standard of acceptability or tolerance is contemporary and Canadian, those charged with the enforcement of this aspect of the law should receive special training in terms of their understanding, knowledge, and appreciation of contemporary Canadian standards of acceptability and tolerance. They should also not be hesitant to consult with those in the field who have the expertise, experience and knowledge to give advice with respect to areas of contemporary Canadian culture and arts."
