Is a solicitor entitled to charge against any property recovered or preserved?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Kuznecov v. Kuznecov, 2006 BCSC 1926 (CanLII):

Pursuant to s.79 of the Legal Profession Act, and stated by Leggat J. in Patten v. Jajcaj, [1994] B.C.J. No.2066 at paragraphs 15 and 16, a solicitor is entitled to a charge against “any property recovered or preserved”. The first issue then becomes whether the actions of the lawyer were successful in recovering or preserving the property of his client.
