What is the extent of damage caused by a hole in the sidewalk at a bar?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Rajotte v. Winnipeg (City), 1988 CanLII 5710 (MB QB):

In the case at bar, the sidewalk was extensively broken, and the concrete had subsided into the depression, leaving a significant hole of anywhere from eight inches to twelve inches in depth. This was a far more serious condition than that which obtained in the case of Holemans v. City of St. Vital, supra. It created a very dangerous situation. Indeed, I think this was recognized by the civic workers who first came upon the scene, and their immediate reaction was to barricade the sidewalk.
