Does cross-examination need to include contradictory evidence?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. McCarroll, 2008 ONCA 715 (CanLII):

The rule in Browne v. Dunn (1893), 6 R.67, establishes that if counsel seeks to challenge the credibility of a witness by calling contradictory evidence, the witness must be given the opportunity to address such evidence during cross-examination. The nature of the contradictory evidence must at least be put to the witness during cross-examination by the counsel who plans to lead it.
