Further, an objective approach must be taken in deciding whether a risk is material and therefore one which should be explained to the patient. The crucial question is whether a reasonable person in the patient's position would want to know of the risk: Ciarlariello v. Schacter, 1993 CanLII 138 (SCC), [1993] 2 S.C.R. 119 at para. 35.
