How is the amount involved in adverse possession determined?

Nova Scotia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Henneberry v. Compton, 2014 NSSC 412 (CanLII):

Counsel for the applicants, on the other hand, takes a different approach in this determination. It is argued that the “amount involved” should be determined by multiplying the percentage of the respondents’ land area claimed by adverse possession to the municipal assessed value of the respondents’ residential property (citing the land dispute decision in Creighton v. Nova Scotia (Attorney General), 2011 NSSC 437).
