What is the current state of the law on loco parentis?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Oxley v. Oxley, 2003 CanLII 64327 (ON SC):

The leading case on the issue is Chartier v. Chartier (1999), 1999 CanLII 707 (SCC), 43 R.F.L. (4th) 1 (S.C.C.). I note in that case that the period of association was far less than in the present case. Nevertheless, loco parentis was found. Virtually no relationship was retained with the biological father.
